Monterey County Deputies Find Boat Containing $18 Million Worth Of Marijuana

PLASKETT, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say deputies arrested four men after finding a boat containing approximately $18 million worth of marijuana in Los Padres National Forest.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office says in a statement deputies and members of a narcotics and gang task force discovered a boat at the park's Mill Creek picnic area after responding to reports Friday.

The San Jose Mercury News reports Sunday that deputies and task force members found the boat sitting on the rocks a few feet from the shoreline with more than 100 bales of marijuana inside.

Nobody was on the boat at the time but evidence indicated the suspects were still in the area. San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office deputies later assisted in stopping a vehicle carrying the four suspects.

All four were booked into the Monterey County Jail.
