MLS Commissioner: Expansion Announcement In Next 40-60 Days

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber now says he'll announce his league's expansion plans in the next 40 to 60 days.

That moves up the deadline he previously announced as June.

Sacramento's minor league soccer team, the Republic FC, is competing for a major league spot, with two ownership groups from Minneapolis.

In January, 49ers owner Jed York announced he was joining the Sacramento Republic's group of investors.

MLS has said they will make their expansion announcement in the city they award a franchise.
