Midtown Residents On Edge Following Woman's Murder

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – As investigators meticulously combed a midtown Sacramento apartment looking for clues in a murder case, a friend of the victim also arrived at the residence but was kept back by crime tape.

"Terrible tragedy," said Bob Seibert.

Seibert said he knew the woman and that a mutual friend told him about her death.  He described her as a kind woman who would do anything for her family and friends.

"Genuine and sweet," Seibert said. "I know for a fact she took care of her family very well [and] took care of her friends brilliantly. Just an all-around memorizing, good person."

The homicide investigation has an artsy midtown neighborhood on edge.

"Cop cars everywhere – way more cop cars than I've seen here in a long, long time," said resident Andrew Tocchi.

"It's a little jarring because it's so close to where we live, so it's a little nerve wrecking," said Carol Saefong, another resident in the area.

Sacramento Police said the woman's body was discovered inside the apartment early Saturday morning by a friend of the woman. The friend had come to check on the woman's welfare because she had not been responding to calls and texts, police said.

The woman was said to be in her 30s. Investigators believe the incident was not random.

Investigators said it's too soon to determine a motive or the exact cause of death. It's also unclear to investigators when the homicide may have happened.

"My prayers and wishes [are] with the family ," Seibert said.

The woman's friend CBS13 spoke to identified her by the name of "Kelsey." The Sacramento County Coroner's Office has not officially released the woman's identity.
