Midtown, Old Sacramento Ready For Busy New Year's Eve Celebrations

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The new year is on its way, and revelers are ready to enjoy it throughout the Sacramento area.

New Year's Eve is one of Connor Davidson's favorite holidays of the year and he loves spending it in Sacramento.

"Midtown in general is really fun, especially this area," he said.

He and thousands of others will be ringing in 2016 throughout the region. From bars to restaurants, preparations are underway for the big night.

Faces owner Terry Sidie is ready for a huge crowd.

"Everyone has to have all the security and then we have the team that keeps things going and everyone happy; it's a very safe place to be," Sidie said.

Between Old Sacramento and West Sacramento, roughly 50,000 people are expected to watch two fireworks displays and Sgt. Bryce Heinlein says Sacramento Police are ready.

"There's going to be officers on foot, on mounted horses, on bicycles tonight and we're going to be engaging in the crowds and enjoying a good time out tonight," he said.

Officers will also be conducting DUI patrols and going into local bars and restaurants to talk to people and make sure things don't get out of hand.

"Give them a heads up on where their sobriety levels are and give tips on how to get home safely," he said.

Law enforcement officials say they need the public's help as well.

"If there's anything out of place we recommend if you see something say something. Bring it up to an officer that might be there," he said.

For Davidson, he says all the precautions make him feel safe to ring in the new year in style.

"I definitely feel safe in the area," he said.
