Microchip Helps Reunite Owner With Lost Poodle, 9 Years Later

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A local woman is reunited with her dog 9 years after a home burglary.

"I'm very very happy. Very happy to be able to see her again," said Sally Butters who received a call she had waited for nearly a decade.

Her toy poodle Gigi had been found and was waiting just 30 miles away.

"There was no trace of her until now, this lady's daughter found her on the street in Roseville," she said.

Stolen in a burglary, thieves took GiGi and a computer. Butters said she never thought she'd see her toy poodle again.

"I never expected it. I thought she would be dead. She's 13 1/2 years old now, how long I have her I don't know, but at least she's home," Butters said.

Thanks to microchipping and a Good Samaritan, Gigi was reunited with her owner.

"Tears streaming down her face and I said, 'Oh no don't cry, you're going to make me cry!' And we both cried for a little bit," said Reba Hunter who took the dog to Citrus Heights Pet Hospital to see if it had a microchip.

These two perfect strangers were brought together for the love of a little white dog.

"She was ready to give her back even though she maybe had hoped to have kept the dog," Butters said.

A dog that's brought so much hope and joy back into her life.

Citrus Heights Pet Hospital helped facilitate the reunion.

They said this is the reason you should always microchip your pets.
