STOCKTON — A second arrest has been made in connection with a deadly double shooting that happened on Memorial Day in central Stockton, police said Friday.

The Stockton Police Department said officers and U.S. Marshals arrested a 16-year-old boy, who was booked into San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall on homicide charges.

Devontae Holmes, 19, was identified as a second suspect in the shooting. Stockton police said Holmes was one of 21 people arrested during an operation targeting a "violent criminal network involved in homicides, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and other serious crimes." The results of that operation were announced on June 13.

The double shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. on May 26 along South San Joaquin Street near Lafayette Street and the Crosstown Freeway.

Stockton police said both gunshot victims, later identified as 19-year-old Jessie Hilliard Jr. and 27-year-old Antwane Perkins, were declared dead at the scene by medics.

Police said multiple people were initially detained, at least one with guns drawn by law enforcement. No arrests occurred that day.
