Media Given Glimpse Of Golden 1 Center Before Big Debut

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Kings opened up the Golden 1 Center doors to reporters for the first time Tuesday, offering a glimpse of the arena interior before the crowds arrive.

Light shining through the arena's many foldings doors gave the arena the indoor/outdoor feel Golden 1 Center architects aimed for.

The arena's mammoth scoreboard stretches from basket to basket. It's the largest in North America.

For Kings owner Vivek Ranadive speaking to reporters, this was a moment of pride.

"What we have here is truly iconic," Ranadive said.

Inside the underbelly of the Golden 1 Center is where 650 miles of fiber-optic cable connects in the data center, right next to mission control.

Golden 1 Center had the only Mission Control room in NBA.

Employees will monitor everything from security cameras to social media Snapchats.

"Mission control is truly the heartbeat of the arena," Kings President Chris Granger said. "The idea of bringing data and people together, in order to put the fan first, that's what mission control is all about."

Mission control can also monitor temperatures and can turn down or heat up individual arena sections through tiny vents under each Golden 1 Center seat.
