Thousands Without Power In Marysville After Fire Burns Through Several Power Lines
MARYSVILLE (CBS13) — Thousands of Marysville residents lost power Thursday evening after a fire burned through several power lines, officials said.
According to PG&E, 8,700 customers lost power just after 7 p.m. due to a fire near Simpson Lane between Marysville and Linda. Officials said power would likely be out through the night as firefighters worked to put out hotspots.
Firefighters estimate the fire burned between 20 and 30 acres and damaged at least 24 trailers near the old Hollywood Trailer Park. By 11 p.m. the fire was mostly contained, but firefighters continued to monitor hotspots and said the overnight winds could fan the flames.
Officials estimate that 30-40 homeless encampments are in the area near the fire. No injuries have been reported.
A spokesperson for PG&E said crews were waiting until it's safe enough to go in and assess the damage.
Twelve agencies, including police, responded to the fire. Marysville police and the Yuba County Sheriff's Department began the process of assessing the damage Thursday night.
Officials have not said what caused the fire.
