Maria Sharapova Pulls Out Of US Open For Second Time In 3 Years

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Maria Sharapova pulled out of the U.S. Open for the second time in three years Sunday, withdrawing on the eve of the tournament because of a lingering right leg injury.

The U.S. Tennis Association announced the withdrawal via a press release at about the same time that Sharapova, who won the title in New York

"Unfortunately I will not be able to compete in this (year's U.S.) Open. I have done everything possible

to be ready but it was just not enough time," Sharapova's message said. "To all my amazing fans, I will be back in the Asian swing in a few weeks and look forward to finishing the year healthy and strong."
