DAVIS (CBS13) — Margrit Mondavi, the philanthropist widow of winery owner Robert Mondavi, has passed away at the age of 91.

UC Davis announced her death in a release on Friday afternoon. The campus credits her as "an incredible champion of our campus and our students" whose name is on the campus' performing arts center.

She started as a tour guide at a winery in the 1960s and went to work for the Robert Mondavi Winery in 1967. She and Robert Mondavi were married in 1980.

The couple's gifts to UC Davis helped open the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Performing Arts Center, the Robert Mondavi Institute For Wine and Food Science, and the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Musem of Art, which is scheduled to open in November.

Last year, UC Davis dedicated the Margrit Mondavi Art Garden in her name.
