Man With Fake Gun Shot By Officer In Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Central California police officer has shot and killed a man who pulled a gun that was later found to be fake.

Thirty-year-old Aaron Marchese of Fresno died at a hospital Friday.

A report of a man with a shotgun sent police to a Fresno neighborhood around 9 a.m.

Authorities say an officer spotted a man matching the suspect's description who began to walk away, ignoring orders to stop and put up his hands.

Authorities say the man was shot when he stopped and reached for what appeared to be a gun tucked in his waistband.

It turned out to be a plastic toy.

Authorities say Marchese had been arrested the night before on misdemeanor charges for allegedly possessing methamphetamine. He was cited and released.
