Man Suspected Of Kidnapping Clerk At Convenience Store

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles police arrested a man suspected of dragging a clerk from a convenience store and shoving her into his car as he struck her with a hammer, a scene recorded on security video.

CBS Los Angeles reports the 28-year-old man was taken into custody Wednesday after crashing his car during a pursuit.

A manhunt was launched hours earlier when officers responded to a silent alarm at the store near downtown. Police say the kidnapper was armed with a hammer when he grabbed the struggling woman and dragged her out of the store.

The woman managed to escape and was found at a cemetery in North Hollywood. She was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.
