Man Sought In Bakersfield Killing Commits Suicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a man sought for a Kern County shooting that left a man dead in the street has committed suicide.

He's identified as 30-year-old Christopher Gray.

A report of shots being fired sent deputies to a home in the Oildale neighborhood Friday morning. Authorities say they found two men lying in front of the house. One was dead and the other was hospitalized in critical condition.

The shootings may have involved a family dispute.

Deputies surrounded a house for several hours after a report that the gunman might have barricaded himself inside but it turned out he fled before their arrival.

Authorities say about three hours after the killing, a man sought for shoplifting at a local Walmart shot himself in the head in front of a home. Coroner's officials identified him as Gray.
