Man shot and killed in Rancho Cordova in Sacramento County

RANCHO CORDOVA — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Rancho Cordova, authorities said Monday night.

It happened at around 9:45 on Coloma Road. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says they received calls reporting that someone had been shot in a vehicle in the back of an apartment complex. Sheriff's deputies and Rancho Cordova police arrived at the scene and found a man, later identified as 30-year-old Todd Thornton, shot multiple times in the torso. Thornton died as a result of his injuries.

No arrests were announced and there was no information available on a suspect or suspects. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office only confirmed it was being investigated as a homicide.  Investigators also said they believed the shooting was gang-related.

There were no reports of other injuries.
