WOODLAND - Police have detained a man in connection with a deadly shooting in Woodland that happened Sunday night.

At around 7:30 p.m., police were notified of an incident at a strip mall in the 100 block of W. Main Street where a man was threatening to shoot another man, according to Woodland Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Richard Towle.

Police later told CBS13 that witnesses said the 36-year-old victim was threatening someone inside of a business. At some point, another man, 33-year-old David Manuel Sanchez-Gallardo, drove up and ran into the victim with his vehicle, Police say. At some point, he also collided with a nearby building. Sanchez-Gallardo then got out of his vehicle and the two got into an argument and eventually, Sanchez-Gallardo shot the victim.

Police say the victim, who had other injuries besides being shot, died at the scene. Police did not find a weapon on the victim. They arrested Sanchez-Gallardo and recovered his weapon. He was booked into Yolo County Jail for murder.

Officers say Sanchez-Gallardo and the victim, whose identity hasn't been released, knew each other.

The shooting attracted a large police presence and led to a temporary closure of Main Street in the area.

[Editor's note: Police previously said the shooting happened at an apartment complex.]
