Man Rescued By Friend After Boat Overturns On Folsom Lake

FOLSOM LAKE (CBS13) - An 88-year-old man is recovering at the hospital after his friend rescued him from drowning on Folsom Lake.

Video from the CHP shows the nighttime rescue.

On Friday around 5:20 p.m., the man and a friend were in a boat dredging the lake in hopes of finding a boat that crashed in the 1960s. As they were dredging, the line caught on an object, and for unknown reasons, the boat overturned, according to a statement from the CHP.

Officers say the pair tried for over an hour to right the boat, then started swimming for shore, pulling the boat behind them. The elderly man began started to become hypothermic and lost consciousness, so the other man let go of the boat, pulled his friend to shore and found help.

Paramedics gave the man CPR and he regained consciousness before being flown Roseville-Sutter Medical Center.
