Fight outside midtown Sacramento bar ends with fatal shooting

1 man dead after fight outside bar turns deadly in midtown Sacramento

SACRAMENTO -- A man who was shot in the area of 28th and J streets in Sacramento just before 1 a.m. Sunday died on the scene.

Officers responded to the midtown area regarding multiple reports of a shooting. They arrive to find the victim near the intersection suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to a police department news release.

The scene in downtown Sacramento where one man was killed after a fight outside of a bar.

Police say the incident started as a fight between two men in Barwest and then spilled out into the street. One person got a gun from a vehicle and shot and killed one of the men involved in the fight. 

Witnesses at the scene went to the police headquarters and gave their statements, say police. There was also significant video footage taken of the area. 

This shooting happened just blocks away from K Street where, on April 3, six people were killed and 12 others were injured. Five shooters were believed to be involved in that incident.  

"We understand the worry. Downtown is generally safe area. You know, when someone is intent on committing violence and bringing guns to entertainment establishments and into bars, it's a recipe for disaster," said Sacramento Police Department spokesman Zach Eaton.

There were 16 police officers patrolling the downtown core Saturday night. Officers were able to get to the shooting scene within three minutes of it happening and started CPR on the victim. 

A description of the suspect has not been released.
