Man Found Dead After Standoff, Fire At Lodi Home Was Honor Farm Escapee

LODI (CBS13) – San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a standoff that turned deadly Tuesday night.

Authorities were along the 300 block of Oak Street looking for an Honor Farm escapee when they approached a home. Deputies talked with a man and woman who were on the porch and asked if anyone else was inside the home.

Deputies reportedly heard someone inside and asked them to out, but the person refused.

Negotiators were in the process of talking with that person of interest when a banging was heard coming from inside. A fire soon broke out at the home.

Deputies then entered the home and found the person dead inside.

The man has since been identified as 39-year-old Damien Gillaspie. Deputies say Gillaspie escaped from the Honor Farm over the weekend.

Gillaspie's exact cause of death is still being investigated.
