Man Hit And Killed By RT Train In Rancho Cordova

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - One person has died after being hit by an RT train in Rancho Cordova.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. near the Mather Field/Mills Station on the Gold Line.

According to a statement from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, the pedestrian is an adult male.

Witnesses reported seeing the man put down his bicycle and appear to jump in front of the train.

Train service has been halted in the area. A bus bridge has been set up between the Mather Field/Mills and Sunrise Stations.

This is the second fatality in a week.

Last Thursday, 15-year-old Mariah Burgess was hit and killed near Coloma Road and Folsom Boulevard. She was walking with her twin sister and another friend.

Investigators say earbuds were found near the crash scene indicating it's possible the teen didn't hear or see the train coming.
