Man Dies During Arrest After Allegedly Stealing Parking Officer's Vehicle

TEMPLE CITY, Calif. (AP) - Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say a man suspected of stealing a parking enforcement officer's official vehicle died while being taken into custody in the Temple City area.

Officials say the suspect died at a McDonald's restaurant during the arrest early Tuesday, but didn't say what the circumstances of the death were.

Deputy Mike Barraza says no shots were fired and deputies did not use stun guns. The incident is under investigation.

The Los Angeles Times reports the man jumped in the vehicle and drove off while the parking officer was writing a ticket. He drove to the McDonald's, where he was approached by deputies.

The coroner's office plans an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The man's name was withheld, pending family notification.
