Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of 3 California Officers
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A man who allegedly led Southern California authorities on a gunfire-punctuated chase has been charged with attempting to murder three peace officers.
Riverside County prosecutors alleged Friday that 38-year-old Leslie D. Berry Jr. shot at a Corona police sergeant and two Riverside police officers on Oct. 11.
He's charged with three counts of attempted murder, felony evading and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The incident began when the Corona sergeant tried to pull over a van matching the description of a vehicle involved in a September drive-by shooting.
Prosecutors say the van sped away to Riverside where the driver fired shots at the sergeant. Two Riverside officers witnessed that and returned fire and the van driver fired shots at all three officers before the pursuit ended.
