Man Armed With Samurai Sword Prompts Short Standoff With Police

MODESTO (CBS13) – A man carrying a samurai sword has surrendered to police after a short standoff in Modesto Wednesday morning, officers say.

The scene was near the transit station at 8th and I Streets. Officers were called to the scene around 8 a.m. and began negotiations with the man.

Photos from the scene showed officers surrounding the area.

Police say the man surrendered to officers and was taken into custody just before 8:30 a.m.

No one was injured in the incident, police say.

Later Wednesday, police say they confronted another man who had a sword holstered in his belt, this time walking on Prescott Road.

As noted in the tweet, police counseled and released the 20-year-old man.

It is unclear what happened to the first man.
