Man Allegedly Wielding Axe Fatally Shot By Deputies

LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) - The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says deputies fatally shot a man who raised an axe and walked toward them after swinging the weapon at a neighbor in Lancaster.

A department statement says the 45-year-old man got into an argument with the neighbor Thursday night, swung the axe at the neighbor several times and threatened to kill him.

Deputies responding to La Vida Drive found the man standing on his front lawn, holding the axe.

The department says deputies ordered the man to drop the axe but he refused and started to walk toward them.

Authorities say several rounds fired from a stun bag shotgun had no effect on the man and he was shot when he raised the axe and walked toward deputies. The man died at a hospital.
