Man Allegedly Chokes Girlfriend In Front Of Deputies

STOCKTON (CBS13) – Authorities say a man became extremely combative while being arrested in Stockton Wednesday night.

The scene was on Frontage Road off of northbound Highway 99. Deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department were called to the area just after 8 p.m. due to a suspicious car that had hit a gate.

Deputies confronted the driver, 26-year-old Jessie Rodriguez, and noted he looked highly intoxicated.

Rodriguez became combative, deputies say. Rodriguez' girlfriend tried to calm in down, but she was allegedly choked by him in plain sight of the deputies.

The deputies then took Rodriguez to the ground, but he continued to put up a fight – including when he was put in the back of a squad car. Rodriguez allegedly kicked a deputy several times in the chest, and even managed to damage a rear passenger window.

He was eventually taken to San Joaquin County Jail. Deputies later searched Rodriguez' home and found two guns – including an AR-15 rifle with an extended magazine – in plain view.

Rodriguez is facing numerous charge, including domestic battery, battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and weapons violations.
