Man Accused Of Hitting Federal Worker With Car In California

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (AP) - The FBI says a driver was arrested on suspicion of hitting a federal employee with a car and then crashing into a garage of a federal building in Southern California.

Bureau spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says 45-year-old Geoffrey Rickner was taken into custody shortly after the crash Thursday outside the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel.

She says Rickner's Mercedes hit the man, who was hospitalized with serious injuries. He was not identified.

The FBI is trying to determine a motive for the apparent attack at the facility, which includes offices for Homeland Security and the IRS.

A bomb squad searched the Mercedes but found no explosive devices.

Rickner, a Laguna Niguel resident, is expected to face an assault charge. It's not known if he has a lawyer.
