I-80 in Auburn reopens after major injury crash

AUBURN — Five people, including three children, were taken to area hospitals after a major crash shut westbound I-80 in Auburn Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 2:45 p.m. near the Maple Street exit and involved one vehicle. Caltrans said all lanes were reopened shortly after 4:20 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol's Auburn division said the driver of the vehicle — a 30-year-old Stockton woman — suffered major injuries while the front passenger suffered a leg fracture. Three children — aged 2, 8 and 9 — were taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Investigators said the vehicle collided with a center divider before rolling over several times.

Travelers were temporarily rerouted through Ophir Road. Eastbound lanes were not affected.
