49-Year-Old Pedestrain Killed In Crash On Major Fairfield Street

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) – A pedestrian died after being hit on North Texas Street early Tuesday morning.

The crash was reported around 6:40 a.m. Police say Walter Ashurst, 49, sustained major injuries from the collision with a vehicle. Ashurst died from his injuries at a local hospital.

The driver of the involved vehicle, a 29-year-old from Fairfield, cooperated with the investigation and stayed on the scene. Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in this collision.

The Fairfield Police Department's Traffic Unit said video footage shows many drivers were present at the time of the collision, so investigators are asking anyone who was a witness to the crash to call Traffic Officer Seth Jamel at 707-428-7300.

N. Texas Street was closed for an extended period of time on Tuesday.
