Major crash causes delays on westbound I-80 in Citrus Heights
A major crash caused significant traffic delays on Interstate 80 in Citrus Heights late Wednesday afternoon.
The crash, involving three vehicles, happened around 4:30 p.m. on the westbound side of the freeway near Antelope Road.
The California Highway Patrol's North Sacramento office said two adults in one of the vehicles were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. CHP noted that a passenger who grabs hold of a steering wheel can also face DUI charges.
Two passengers from that same vehicle were taken to the hospital. In total, three people were transported with major but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
The crash blocked two westbound lanes for an extended period, causing significant backups during the evening commute.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
