Comcast, Verizon Outage In Vacaville, Fairfield Caused By Construction Crews

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A significant Internet outageaffected residents across Northern California on Friday.

A Comcast spokesman said a construction crew working in the area of Madison Street in Fairfield cut a fiber-optic line. The spokesman confirmed customers in the area of Fairfield and Vacaville are affected.

A Verizon spokeswoman confirmed its customers are also affected.

At 8:30 p.m. on Friday, a Verizon spokeswoman confirmed its customers were back up and running.

A Comcast spokesman said most Verizon customers were affected by the outage for four hours, while Comcast customers were affected for about six hours.

He said impacted Comcast customers can contact the company about possible bill adjustments, though those are being handled on a case-by-case basis.

CBS13's Nick Janes reports crews were still making repairs at around 8:40 p.m. on Friday.

A Verizon spokeswoman says the company uses the affected line, but it's owned and maintained by Comcast.
