Bicyclist dies after crash on Madison Avenue in North Highlands

SACRAMENTO COUNTY – A bicyclist has died after being struck by a vehicle in the North Highlands area Monday night.

The crash happened just before 9 p.m. along Madison Avenue, near Jackson Street.

Exactly what led up to the bicyclist being struck is unclear, but Metro Fire of Sacramento crews who responded to the scene say the rider was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

On Tuesday, California Highway Patrol revealed that the bicyclist died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the bicyclist.

CHP noted that the driver who struck the bicyclist stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
