Macy's Announces Dozens Of Store Closures, Including Country Club Plaza Location

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Macy's has announced that it's store at Country Club Plaza will be closing in early 2016.

The 165,000 square feet Sacramento store is among 40 store closures the company announced on Wednesday.

Lagging sales in 2015 has been cited as the major factor for the store closures.

"In light of our disappointing 2015 sales and earnings performance, we are making adjustments to become more efficient and productive in our operations," said Macy's chairman and chief executive officer Terry J. Lundgren in a release announcing the closures.

Clearance sales at the stores slated for closure will begin on Jan. 11, Macy's says. The sales will run for between 8 to 12 weeks.

The Country Club Plaza Macy's location was first opened in 1961 and employs 111 associates, according to Macy's.

Macy's Arden Fair Mall, Downtown Plaza and Roseville Galleria locations were not on the list of store closures.
