Low Flying Plane To Spray Natomas This Weekend

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - An airplane will once again be spraying chemicals over parts of North Natomas this weekend in an effort to eradicate disease-carrying mosquitoes.

On Sunday an agricultural area north of Elkhorn Boulevard is scheduled to be treated with insecticide designed to help stop the spread of West Nile Virus.

The spraying is in the same area that was treated in July, when many neighbors complained about the lack of notice, and that the plane was flying over their homes just 300 feet off the ground.

In that instance, the Sacramento Mosquito and Vector Control District said the plane was only spraying a rural area north of homes, but flight tracking data obtained by CBS13 showed the plane going up to two miles south of where it was supposed to be spraying.

The mosquito district said that winds would carry the chemicals away from homes before it reached the ground.

So far this year there has been three confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus in Sacramento County, including one fatality.
