Former Loomis school custodian arrested after investigation into alleged harassing behavior

Former Placer County school custodian accused of inappropriate communications with student

LOOMIS – A man who previously worked as a custodian for a Loomis school has been arrested on suspicion of inappropriate communication with a student.

The Placer County Sheriff's Office arrested Timothy Paul Newman on Thursday.

Detectives say the arrest came after an investigation into reports of Newman's alleged harassing behavior while he worked as a custodian for the Loomis School District.

In a letter sent to families on Thursday, Loomis Union School District Superintendent Erika Sloane shared that Newman had worked at Placer Elementary and that the alleged incident happened on campus.

"As soon as we became aware of the concern, the district acted swiftly and in accordance with all legal requirements and district policies. The situation was taken very seriously and thoroughly investigated, and appropriate steps were taken immediately to remove the individual from campus to ensure the safety of our students," Sloane stated.

Detectives noted that they don't believe there are any other alleged victims.

Newman has been booked into jail, facing charges of annoying or molesting a child under 18.
