Legal Foundation Sues Over Vehicle, Logging Access To Plumas National Forest

QUINCY, Calif. (AP) - A nonprofit legal foundation is accusing federal officials of cutting off motor vehicle access to thousands of roads and trails on forestland in Northern California.

The Pacific Legal Foundation says in a lawsuit filed on Wednesday that a 2010 decision by the U.S. Forest Service blocked access to much of the Plumas National Forest without reviewing the consequences to the public.

A call to a Plumas National Forest spokeswoman was not immediately returned. The forest service says the decision focused on unauthorized travel routes and added 234 miles of trails to the forest's existing transportation system.

The Pacific Legal Foundation filed the lawsuit on behalf of groups including two counties - Butte and Plumas, who say the decision deprives them of revenue from logging and reduces recreational opportunities for their residents.
