Leak Found At Folsom Dam Spillway Construction Site

CBS13 (CBS) - Crews are inspecting a leak at the new spillway construction site next to Folsom Dam.

Around 4:30 a.m., people working at the site noticed a small amount of water seeping past the cofferdam, or temporary barrier, surrounding the construction project.

All work stopped and workers were quickly evacuated from the area while the bulkhead gates were placed in the down position as a precaution.

"Our first priority is to stabilize that cofferdam that we currently have in place with extra material, and then safely get all of the equipment we currently have in the approach channel hole out to make sure there are no environmental impacts," said Katie Charan, a Joint Federal Project project manager.

Officials say they have identified the exact cause of the leak or how long they expect it will take to repair it.
