Commercial Fire In Modesto Sends Up Large Smoke Plume

MODESTO (CBS13) - A fire in Modesto on Sunday sent up a large, black plume of smoke.

At around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, fire crews received the call of a fire at a plastics recycling plant on Mariposa Road. When they arrived at the scene, Stanislaus Consolidated and Modesto Fire departments found material burning outside.

Fortunately, crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby structures, according to a statement from the Modesto Fire Department.

One firefighter from Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department and one from Modesto Fire Department were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Early damage estimates to the materials are between $100,000 and $200,000.
