Lane-Splitting Motorcyclist Dies After Colliding With Big Rig On Interstate 80

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A motorcycle rider splitting lanes on Interstate 80 died after clipping a truck and hitting a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers say the 25-year-old Sacramento man was riding a Kawasaki Ninja, splitting the two inside lanes at between 50 and 60 mph on eastbound Interstate 80, west of Northgate Boulevard.

As traffic slowed, the left side of the motorcycle clipped a 2012 Dodge Ram that was traveling at less than 5 mph. That collision caused the motorcyclist to lose control and strike the back of the big rig.

The motorcyclist separated from his vehicle and was killed on impact.
