LA County Sheriff's Deputy Shot, Killed In Lancaster

LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) -- A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy shot in the desert city of Lancaster has died.

Deputy Guillermina Saldana says the deputy was shot around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday while answering a report of a burglary in progress on West Avenue J-7.

The deputy was hospitalized. Hours later, authorities announced the deputy had died.

Saldana says other deputies have arrived in the neighborhood and are searching for the shooter.

The deputy has been identified as Sgt. Steve Owen.
