K9 Officer Hurt During Marijuana Grow Raid Near Lassen National Forest

CHICO (CBS13) – A police dog was injured during a marijuana grow raid near the Lassen National Forest Thursday.

The U.S. Forest Service says K9 Jackie was hurt while bringing in suspects at the pot grow. She suffered injuries to her head and mouth and was airlifted to the Valley Oak Veterinary Center in Chico.

Video posted by the vet center shows a bandaged Jackie being carried in by a uniformed officer.

Jackie is expected to make a full recovery. She was released from the vet later Thursday afternoon and will be back on duty by Saturday after some rest at home.

"The superior senses of working dogs are an invaluable asset in the drug enforcement process," said Jackie's handler Paul Zohovetz in a release. "The courage and enthusiasm with which they tackle their job is inspiring to all of us."

The U.S. Forest Service is investigating how exactly Jackie was injured.

Jackie, a 7-year-old Belgian Malinois, regularly patrols the Lassen National Forest with Officer Zohovetz.
