It's A Scam: The IRS Doesn't Accept Payment Via iTunes Gift Cards

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The IRS does not accept payment in iTunes gift cards.

That should be the first tip-off for Sacramento County residents that they may be the target of a scam.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department says it's received multiple reports from residents saying someone claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service is demanding payment for a tax-related debt.

Unlike other scams that ask for an untraceable GreenDot prepaid card, these scammers are looking for iTunes gift cards.

The IRS doesn't call and demand immediate payment.
