Investigators Didn't Know Man Busted With 200 Pounds Of Pot Was Yuba County Deputy
YORK COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA (CBS13) — Pennsylvania investigators released a laundry list of items carried by a Yuba County Sheriff's deputy who was arrested on drug trafficking charges.
Narcotics officers say 37-year-old deputy Christopher Heath, who goes by Mark, was busted on Dec. 28 and posted $1 million bond.
Heath was arrested while vacationing in York County where police say the deputy who works on the Yuba County drug and gang task force was found transporting 200 pounds of marijuana from Northern California to Pennsylvania.
Drug officers also found thousands of dollars in cash and confiscated Heath's department-issued revolver and his badge.
Heath has been charged with suspicion of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver.
York County District Attorney Tom Kearney says the bust was made during an undercover sting, but investigators didn't know Heath's background.
"I will tell you prior to the stop we were unaware that this individual was law enforcement," he said. "We did not become aware of that until we made the stop."
Two other suspects from Northern California were also arrested in the case.
Heath's home in Butte County was searched again on Monday. He has been placed on paid administrative leave.
