Incoming Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg Endorses Marijuana Legalization Measure

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Incoming Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg has endorsed California's push for legalizing marijuana in the state.

"I will be voting for Proposition 64 in November and encourage others to do the same," he said.

Steinberg announced his support for Proposition 64 on Friday, saying the state "needs a smarter and more honest approach to marijuana policy." He says the state needs more regulation and prevention than criminalization.

Steinberg will take over for recent pie recipient Kevin Johnson after topping City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby in the June primary. Johnson decided earlier this year not to run for a third term.
