Hundreds Spend Christmas Morning Without Power in Modesto

Modesto, Calif (CBS13) --  Hundreds of Modesto Irrigation District customers were still without power on Christmas Day after 12 power poles were knocked over when a tree fell on power lines on Coffee Road.  National Weather Service crews were on the ground looking at the damage and assessing whether or not a Tornado touched down in the area.

The National Weather Service tells CBS13's Leigh Martinez that straight-line winds up to 80 miles per hour caused the tree to fall on the power lines, which in turn knocked over 12 power poles.  The poles and wires were strewn all over the Coffee road and Floyd avenue. The intersection is closed until crews can repair the damage.

Modesto Irrigation District says 150-200 homes in the area are without power and have no estimated time of restoration.
