RANCHO CORDOVA - A teen is dead and her suspected killer is in the hospital after he was shot by pursuing authorities in Elk Grove.

At around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, sheriff's deputies were called out to the 3000 block of Ramsgate Way, just off Mather Field Road, on reports of an injured woman, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found the victim alive, lying outside a home; however, she died minutes later.

Rancho Cordova police say the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times and then ran over her with his car. On Friday, the Sacramento County coroner identified the victim as 18-year-old Saraiah Acosta of Rancho Cordova.

Deputies were able to identify the suspect as 22-year-old Devian Lewis, who had fled the area before authorities arrived. They eventually found Lewis in the area of Bruceville Road and Big Horn Boulevard, and after a short chase, shot Lewis at least once. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The sheriff's office says that no officers were hurt during the incident. The details of what led up to the shooting have not been released.

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi said the victim and suspect were in an on-and-off relationship for about two years.
