Homeowner In El Dorado County Hits Alleged Would-Be Thief With Vehicle

EL DORADO COUNTY (CBS13) - An El Dorado County homeowner took matters into his own hands after he caught two men allegedly trying to steal items from his property.

On Thursday at around 3:40 p.m., El Dorado County deputies were called to a home in the 5000 block of Metate Train in the Oak Hill area on reports of a men arguing that were followed by gun shots, according to a statement from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

The call stemmed from an incident on Calamity Lane in which a resident caught two men on his property who were allegedly trying to steal some items. When the two suspects ran off towards Metate Trail, the homeowner got into his vehicle and chased after them. At some point during the chase, the homeowner, who was armed with a gun, fired a warning shot. When he tried to cut off one of the suspects, he ended up hitting him.

When deputies arrived, they found in the injured suspect. He was taken to the hospital. Not long afterwards, deputies found the second suspect and took him into custody.
