Historic Midtown Sacramento Building Goes Up In Flames

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A fire that ripped through a historic building in Midtown Sacramento early Saturday morning is under investigation.

According to the Sacramento Fire Department, crews were called to the Ice Blocks building near 16th and R streets around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters found that more than 50 percent of the building already had flames shooting through the roof.

More than 75 firefighters were called to the scene and the fire went to three alarms.

Crews were able to get the flames under control by 7 a.m. No one was injured in the fire and the cause is still under investigation.

The building, which once housed the Crystal Ice Plant, was one of the next redevelopment projects for the newly-revitalized R Street corridor.
