Highway 99 reopens south of Yuba City after crash involving semi, SUV
SUTTER COUNTY – Road closures impacted traffic on Highway 99 south of Yuba City following a crash involving at least two vehicles Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.
The crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. at Highway 99 and Hull Road, just north of the Obanion Road Shell station.
An SUV driver turned from Hull Road onto northbound 99, directly in the path of a semi-truck, the California Highway Patrol said. The semi struck the rear of the SUV, sending both vehicles onto the southbound side of the highway, where the SUV and one of the semi's trailers overturned.
A 77-year-old man who was driving the SUV was hospitalized with major injuries, the CHP said. The truck driver was not injured.
DUI did not appear to be a factor, the CHP said.
Both sides of the highway were initially under a complete closure at Obanion Road. Just before 3:30 p.m., the northbound lanes had reopened to traffic. The southbound lanes reopened around 7 p.m.
The crash scene is about nine miles south of Yuba City.
