Hurricane Bringing High Surf To California Beaches

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Beachgoers along California's Central and Southern coasts are being warned about dangerous swimming conditions.

The National Weather Service says Hurricane Fabio off Mexico's Pacific coast will bring high surf to beaches in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties starting Wednesday evening and continuing through Friday.

The hurricane is weakening as it moves farther out to sea. It poses no threat to land. But the National Weather Service says its responsible for a large swell moving into the California coast.

Swimmers and surfers should be careful about rip currents and large, breaking waves.

People are being advised to swim near a lifeguard and relax and float if caught in a rip current.
