Groundbreaking For New Kings Arena To Happen Wednesday

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento Kings will be officially breaking ground on their new arena on the same day they kick off the 2014-15 season, the team announced Friday.

Numerous dignitaries – including Mayor Kevin Johnson and Kings Owner Vivek Ranadivé – will be speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at the construction site.

Later that day, the Kings will tip off against the Golden State Warriors at Sleep Train Arena.

It will be the 30th year of the Kings playing in Sacramento.

Crews have been busy demolishing parts of the old Downtown Plaza. As previously reported, about 1900 tons of concrete rubble are stockpiled then processed through crushers every day at the site.
