Grant HS Football Player Shot And Killed, Del Paso Heights In Mourning

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The community of Del Paso Heights is trying to restore a sense of normalcy after the deadly shooting that took the life of a football player.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of the Grant Union High School football player everyone knew as "JJ," while others were back on campus at a regularly scheduled peewee football game Saturday.

JJ was a senior and starting cornerback at Grant High. He was shot and killed hours before the team was set to play in a playoff game Friday night. Another player was wounded in the shooting.

Saturday, notes and letters could be seen tied to the football gate, reading "rest in peace Jaulon Clavo" and "forever in our hearts Clavo #5."

JJ was riding in a car that was on the way to the game when the shooting happened.  His friend was shot in the arm and is recovering.

City leaders have offered their condolences to Clavo's family and the community.

Officials have announced that the game between Beyer and Grant Union High School has been rescheduled for Monday at 5 p.m
